Carlos and Nancy Coto of Bernardsville, nominated by Friends ofHearts For Honduras Foundation, were the original founders and serve as mission team leaders and on the Vision Team. The couple met in Honduras when Nancy volunteered as a physical therapist from 1995 to 1997. Carlos’ sister, Paty Villanueva, had a passion to teach impoverished children who had not received an education. With Paty’s vision and dedication, along with financial resources from Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church, the Hearts For Honduras School began in 2000.
Since getting married and moving to Bernardsville in 1998, the Cotos have had multiple volunteer positions over the years at Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church. Carlos has served as an Elder. Since 2006, they have worked with Somerset County Christian Homeschoolers.
“We truly believe we are blessed in order to be a blessing to others,” they said. They both feel “babysitting for single parents in our community” is a volunteering need going unfilled in the neighborhood and “more outreach to the Hispanic community in our area” is needed as well. Nancy is a physical therapist and Carlos is the owner of Summit Tailors in Summit. They have two children, Emilia, age 10 and Benjamin, age 6.
